The last three years have seen a record number of Americans die from gun violence. Enough is enough. The carnage must stop. To both raise awareness and honor those lives impacted, Rolling Stone has teamed up with Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund to design this special edition t-shirt. We defy the notion that our country cannot change and we must live with this scourge, sacrificing our children, schools and streets in an endless cycle of bloodshed. We ask that you proudly fly these colors and join us during Wear Orange Weekend on June 2-4, and help us imagine a future without gun violence, an America where children go to school without the fear of massacre and our streets are still safe.
Why do we wear orange?
On January 21, 2013, Hadiya Pendleton marched in President Obama’s second inaugural parade. One week later, Hadiya was shot and killed on a playground in Chicago at 15 years old. Soon after this tragedy, Hadiya’s friends commemorated her life by wearing orange, the color hunters wear in the woods to protect themselves and others. Wear Orange is now observed every June. Thousands of people wear the color to honor Hadiya and the more than 40,000 people who are killed with guns and approximately 85,000 who are shot and wounded every year.
Rolling Stone is a proud supporter of Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund and National Gun Violence Awareness Day. We will make a donation to Everytown to support their gun violence prevention work. We encourage you to learn more about National Gun Violence Awareness Day at wearorange.org
